Somalis President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has officially signed today the new country’s constitution after it had previously been approved by both houses of the federal parliament of Somalia.

During the signing ceremony, which took place at the presidential palace in Mogadishu, the president stated that this step represents the end of a long phase of review and work carried out on the country’s constitution, which had remained in a provisional status for a long time.

President Hassan Sheikh noted that the implementation of the new constitution will begin today, emphasizing that it will play an important role in strengthening government institutions, protecting citizens’ rights, and advancing Somalia’s democratic system.

The ceremony was attended by the speaker of the house of the people of the federal parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Adan Madoobe), the speaker of the upper house, senator Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, as well as the leaders of the committees responsible for the constitutional review.

However, the new constitution is expected to serve as an important legal foundation for guiding the government system and will also play a major role in stabilizing and developing governance in Somalia.
